1930's Womenwear
From the 1920's to the 1930's the skirts became longer, the waist line returned o its normal position for the traditional womanly look. Cloche hats remained popular until around 1933, short hair remained popular until the late 1930's. Gloves were important aswel. Evening gowns were accompanied by elbow length gloves and day wear costumes were worn with short opera length gloves. Costume jewellery was originally inspired by the art deco movement. It then moved onto the retro period (1935-1950) which the aim was to be glamour , elegance and sophistication. Underwear in the 1930's brought back the corset or 'girdle' women also started to wear a strapless bra which gained popularity with its ability to push the breasts up and enhance cleavage. During the war, women wore skirts at knee length with square shouldered jackets which often fastened at the waist with a belt. Many magazines advised women on remaking mens suits into smart outfits.
